On The Road With Your Dog
These are some great tips from Susan Sims, publisher of FIDO Friendly Magazine, for traveling with your pet – MUST-HAVES if you’re on a road trip but also good to keep in mind for all kinds of travel.
- A copy of your dog’s vaccination history
- Collar and leash just in case you need a potty break in an area where those are required
- ID tag with your contact phone number
- First Aid kit including:
- Tweezers to remove ticks
- Styptic powder to stop bleeding from minor cuts
- Eye wash to flush wounds
- Gauze bandage
- Adhesive tape
- Scissors
- Antiseptic moist wipes
- A big supply of his favorite food, treats and water because, chances are, your pet’s very accustomed to what he’s already eating and food on the road may upset his stomach
- Seat covers in case your pet gets to wander outside and gets a bit dirty from playing around
- Extra blankets and towels
- Safety belt or restraint to keep him safe in your vehicle
- Doggy bed and sheets so he can rest comfortably
- Travel kennel in case you need to stop off at a hotel and a kennel is required
- Toys, toys, toys
This should help ensure your canine car companion is an easy rider!
